UBUNTU SHORT MOVIE & ART COMPETITION for HIGH SCHOOL LEARNERS (grade 8-11 only).

The theme is:  UBUNTU FOR SOLIDARITY

Category 1: Short Movie/Film

Create a video (short movie/film) in which you convey your message in a story enhanced with visual and audial effects by using popular video editing tools like After Effects, Sony Vegas, Movie Maker, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, iMovie, Pinnacle Studio, Ulead Video Studio etc.

The duration of the film must be between 3 and 7 minutes.

Short Movie/Film should be in English.

All genres are accepted with the exception of music videos and animations.

Slideshows are not accepted.

Short Movie/Film should be uploaded to YouTube for online viewing.

The link of uploaded Short Movie file should be emailed to: shortmovie@usmac.org.za for viewing and evaluation by the panel of USMAC.

Send Brief information about your Short Movie. Please include your Name (Producer of Short Movie/Film), School, Grade, Teacher/Supervisor and Contact number in your email.

A brief link of the uploaded movie/film  may suffice for the first stage of qualification to the USMAC final.

Should your work qualify for the USMAC Finals, you will be invited to the final evaluation and awards ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa.

For final evaluation, you need to submit your original work.

Category 2: Artwork /Poster

Create a hand-drawing artwork (A3 Poster) in which you will convey your message.

Scan your work and email it to: poster@usmac.org.za for evaluation by the panel of usmac.

Send Brief information about your Artwork. Please include your Name (Artist of Artwork), School, Grade, Teacher/Supervisor and Contact number in your email.

The scanned artwork/poster may suffice for the first stage to get qualification to the USMAC final.

Should your work qualify for the USMAC Finals, you will be invited to the final evaluation and awards ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa.

For final evaluation, you need to submit your original work.

 

Some useful Criteria to be considered for Short Movie/Film:

Follow guidelines

Interpretation and the clarity of the theme.

Creativity and originality of the theme.

Use of theme, clarity of the artwork as the aspect of the final product.

Use of technical skills like acting, lighting, sound, music.

Use of cinematography (camera angles, picture clarity, transitions, effects and editing)

Is it authentic and believable? Is it original?

Did you care about the hero/heroine and other characters?

Were there sub- plots that worked or got in the way?

Was it funny when it should be?

Were you satisfied with the ending?

Were the actors believable?

Did they seem natural or did it seem like “acting”?

Are they appropriate ages for the characters they are?

Can you hear what is going on in the film, the dialogue, music and effects?

Is the sound clear or muddled?

Is the sound appropriate for the film, does it fit the story?

Is the lighting appropriate for the film?

Can you see what is happening?

Follow guidelines

Creativity and originality of the theme.

Quality of artistic composition and overall design on the theme.

Visual impact and technical skills

Hand drawing on A3 size of paper

Use of theme, clarity of the artwork as the aspect of the final product

Up-to-date, reflecting present interests

Over all impression of artwork
